Compressed functionality. The
CS Sofa was designed for a furniture making
class at SCIARC. We were given the restriction
of 30" x 30" x 30" but I did not see why it
could not expand from its initial state into
something larger. This prototype was a
functional sofa which compressed into a perfect
25" cube. It was constructed of California
Redwood and oiled with Danish Oil. The hinging
was designed and implemented so that the edges
were clean, not fussy. The cushions fit neatly
inside and allowed for easy transport. When
fully extended, the sofa had four comfortable
seats, one ottoman, four seat backs, and an
armrest. Its final length was 100".
