It's been a while since my last post but i was busy rushing through crowds of shoppers a midst retail bombardment. *sigh.* Its amazing to me how so many people can be spending money on things they know outright will be hated/unused/discarded/returned. Interesting how we have become somewhat slaves to commercialism.

I am able to happily report the completion of (3) more pieces.

"amuse me" 39" x 54" "sublime confrontation" 39" x 54"

this is the large piece I was working on previously. It now has a title; "regressive progress" 63" x 96".

I went to a holiday party where we were asked to bring (5) items to exchange-- so, I decided to bring some quick pieces that exemplify the whole philosophy of Individualmalism. Truthfully, I had to laugh. There were a lot of cocked-head looks--- because I think that people expect paintings to embrace "beauty" - that somehow need to be bowls of fruit, landscapes, or whatever condo art excites some. The new work is unapologetic and is not trying to be beautiful but rather is the process and philosophy that is a product. According to the art critic Clement Greenberg, ; "...all original work looks ugly at first." The jury is still out for me on whether this series is original, ugly, provocative, muddy, or? Honestly, I am working out the implementation of the theory/process. More to come, I am sure- what will be produced, I am not sure.

architectural influence

Frank is probably one of the main reasons I got into architecture. Same thing though.

The urban landscape is in some ways the "new nature." Frank Lloyd Wright in my opinion did not embrace nature, he swallowed it.

I want to create architecture/art/installations that seem as delicately placed as a few random leaves that were "accidently" blown on a surface into a beautiful configuration. -For there are no real accidents in life. Can it be done? Not sure, but it is worth dedicating myself to finding out if I can achieve it.

sculpturedoodles + naturesculpts.

Recently, I went to a music festival. While there, I began to toy with notion of 3D conceptual concept doodles made from nature> I like to call them sculpturedoodles + naturesculpts. The former, sculpturedoodles, is when I manipulate items found in nature- torque, bend, weave, cut + arrange materials found only in nature that are a pure indulgence in form. The ladder, naturesculpts, are the arrangement of natural materials into configurations with little modification to the original material. With both, I study their light reflection + absorbtion, shadows, simplicity or complexity of form, how the materials behave when left in its natural state or when pushed almost too far. At times, there are failures in the material--- but as always, one should know the limits of materials before one can exhault them to sublime limits.

These are some of my studies.

My studio.

Would you like to visit my studio? Some have asked and you shall recieve. Organized chaos? mmmmmm, maybe. Just give me paint and trays where I can divide color... Oh, it might of interest that I have started making my own paintsticks... pigment and natural beeswax.

It's funny, my work and my life are adapting more and more concepts of purism with every passing day. I make no apologies for paint splatters from my can of paint onto the canvas for there is beauty in the entire process of creation- if nothing is an accident... and I am at the helm of the work... then whether it is obviously intentional or subconsciously intentional- it is still part of the process of creation. Beauty is not controllable. Reality is gorgeous.

I live in a state of constant creation.

If there is beauty in the process of creation, then the demarcations of process also contain beauty. Lately, I have been working on this mural. It is the largest I have ever done. I make no apologies of marks made by the confident movement of my brush nor the collection of paint on the canvas above the stretchers- for it is all a part of the composition. This piece is 6'9" x 5'9" and in many ways, it is killing me softly with a smile.

There is a slight chill in the air here in Tampa- and with this new weather (ohhh sooo welcomed after it was rediculously Dante's Inferno hot this summer) comes a new direction in my work.

I have been litterally working almost nonstop. I have only been sleeping in intervals of 3-4 hours- then working for a few- then collapsing for an hour....

Although I am painfully tired, I am invigorated. Yesterday, I finished two complete pieces- each is 39"x59" and are comprised of mixed media: oils, acryics, pastels and whatever I can get my hands on. This piece, named "Artificial Sunshine" is standing proudly amounst a sea of others. I am tempted to overpaint some of my old pieces because I cannot make the canvas fast enough. yes, for this series I have been constructing and preparing the canvas myself (in my woodshop.) I often laugh when my neighbors stare at me building these "tiny walls" and later jammin' out in my studio late into the night...

I can't tell if this new direction is good- for I am way to much into the NEED to produce right now. If art is expression, then perhaps this expression has been repressed and it wasn't until I was this free that I could allow it to excape. Again, I can't think that far into it yet- so far, it just is. This new series taps deep into my subconscious thinking- tales without words- perhaps things I have never even allowed myself to utter.

Ahhh, well... I think I am off to paint again dispite how it hurts to blink 'cause I am so sleepy.

I am an artist.

The mediums I use vary from day to day but there is one constant- my need to

learn + create. I have studied for many years but where I learn the most is

by watching +listening to people. Perhaps it is the way a man crumples a piece of paper or how a stranger says a word. The fact is,
beauty + inspiration
is found everywhere.
The form of a vanilla soft-serve ice cream cone inspires me. The soft gradual interlocking spirals informed the structural system of a conceptual roof.
A moment that changed by life was witnessing a 3 year-old drinking a Welch’s grape soda for the first time. The bubbles danced in her mouth + the flavor was so explosive that not only was it obvious on her candy stained cheeks, but she exclaimed the most wondrous + pure “wow!” It was at that moment that I knew that I had to live my life with the same intensity, excitement + wonder.
As far as I can remember, I have been obsessed with color. As a child,

there was no greater thrill than getting a new box of crayons. To me, those waxy sticks of colors (with names like cornflower + sky blue)

offered me boundless dreams.

Soon

I went from the drawing paper + learned how to paint my world with my eyes + when I got older, I began to use form.
Art, architecture +design came to me naturally + I have always searched for ways to continuously challenge, educate + evolve.

To me, design + architecture is a 3-dimensional game of chess infused with art. It requires strategy, skill + a hypersensitivity to the five senses. Form, color, smell, texture + light are my chess pieces. For design to be good, it was to engage all your senses.

I feel music + dream in color.

Creating space, furniture, objects or volumes are extensions of my imagination. It is the way I communicate +share my dreams.

Passion fuels my life.
Creating is like breathing.
Without art, there is nothing.

mi primo anthony

this is my latest painting. i hadn't seen him in over 20 years. i think my work is becoming more expressive + intimate, intense + vulnerable.

omg. i have a blog.

ahhhhhh so finally, i figured out how to embed a blog on my site. i look forward to what this might become.
